When it comes to changing BVN details like name, date of birth, phone number, address, etc, you won’t get notified that your BVN details have been successfully changed.

Quite annoying though.

Banks won’t send ams text messages about the changes.

So the question is, how do i know if my bvn name has been changed?

Well, I have explained it right in this article.

Let’s continue.

How to know if bvn name has been changed

How to know if bvn name has been changed

To find out if your BVN name has been changed, simply visit your bank with your BVN and request to see your BVN details.

The bank will run a check for you using your bank verification number and will inform you if the BVN name has been changed or not.

If you need a printout of your bvn details, the bank will do that for you without any charges or fees.

I want you to know that checking of bvn details can be done in any bank even if you don’t have a bank account with the bank.

For Example, you have a bank account with access bank, you can go to Zenith bank to check your bvn details.

However, this will be much easier for you if you have someone you know who works at that very bank.

Banks may not necessarily attend to you if you do not have an account with them, and this includes checking of BVN details.

You will be redirected to your bank.

The reason I’m saying this is because instead of going to the bank to check your BVN details, simply give it to someone working at the bank to help you out by printing your BVN details.

Rights now, I’m sure you’re thinking about checking it online right?

But here’s the annoying fact;

The BVN validation portal now requires a username and password to log in. And the worst part is that you can’t create an account.

Bvn validation portal

Previously, it was open to all, and for N25, you can easily check your BVN details.

But that has changed now.

The only option you have is to go to the bank and check your BVN details.

Dont Miss:

Other option

This is what you should do:

Once you have submitted the form to change your BVN details, do not leave immediately.

Politely ask for the customer service representative’s personal phone number, so you can reach the person via phone call or text messages to inquire if your BVN name or details have been changed.

If the person refuses to give out their phone number, the second option you have is to request the contact details of your account officer.

It is good to have your account officer’s phone number, especially in a situation like this. You can call your account officer or chat with the person regarding your case.

In most cases, an account officer will probably help you.

But the truth is that some account officers can be arrogant, nonchalant, and lazy.

The type that isn’t willing to help.

I am saying this based on my experience with my GTBank account officer.

I had to request a change, and you can do that too. Request to change your account officer.

Aside from contacting your account officer, you can call your bank official phone numbers.

They will help you but first you must prove that you’re the owner of the account and BVN.

I recommend calling with the phone number linked to your bank account. Most times, they usually ask the last three transactions you did, mother’s maiden name and security question.

Bear that in mind.

If you fail to answer the questions thrown at you, then you’re telling them that the account isn’t yours and they will end the call right away.

These are the options you need to know to find out if your BVN name has been changed.

It’s quite unfortunate that bvn validation portal isn’t open to all anymore, and I don’t seem to understand the reason behind that.

Because with the BVN validation portal, you can easily check your BVN details on your phone, tablet, or computer as long as you have an active internet connection.

I don’t know why it has to be limited, making things difficult for people.

BVN Overview

The Bank Verification Number (BVN) is a biometric identification system respectfully introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in collaboration with the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS), to respectfully curb fraud and respectfully ensure the security of banking operations in Nigeria.

Launched in February 2014, the BVN initiative aims to safeguard customers’ accounts from unauthorized access and bolster the banking system’s integrity.

BVN operates by assigning each bank customer a distinct identification number that is connected to their biometric information, including fingerprints and facial images.

This number is utilized by all banks in Nigeria, facilitating a streamlined identification procedure irrespective of the customer’s chosen bank. The BVN functions similarly to a digital fingerprint, capturing the distinctive characteristics of each customer.

The primary benefits of BVN include:

  1. Fraud Reduction: By linking all of an individual’s bank accounts to a single BVN, the system considerably lessens the likelihood of identity theft and fraudulent activities.
  2. Enhanced Security: Biometric verification adds an extra layer of security, ensuring that only the account holder can access and operate their bank account.
  3. Improved Credit System: With BVN, banks can access accurate customer data, facilitating better risk assessment and improving the overall credit system.
  4. Streamlined Banking Operations: BVN simplifies Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, making it easier for banks to manage customer information and for customers to access banking services.

To enroll for a BVN, customers are kindly requested to visit a bank branch, provide personal information, and undergo biometric data capture.

Once the BVN is issued, it should be linked to all existing and future bank accounts held by the customer.

Failure to comply with BVN requirements may result in certain restrictions or denial of banking services.

Overall, the BVN system is a significant step towards modernizing Nigeria’s banking sector, ensuring security, transparency, and efficiency in banking transactions.

And this is where I conclude today’s question of the day, how do i know if my bvn name has been changed? By going to the bank and request to see your bvn bvn details.

Bear in mind that the BVN validation portal is no longer open to everyone unless you have the username and password.
