There are certain situations that will make someone want to open a bank account without a BVN, especially for quick account opening.

This leads us to the question of which bank in Nigeria allow account opening without a BVN or which bank can I open without a bvn in Nigeria.

This is our main focus for the day.

Now, listen. I want you to know that almost all banks in Nigeria have the option to open a bank account without a bvn. Yes, you heard me.

However, there is more to that which you should know, and that which I will explain in this article.

Which bank can i open without a bvn in Nigeria

Which bank can i open without a bvn?

You can open a bank account without a BVN in any bank in Nigeria by using the bank ussd code or mobile banking app.

All banks in Nigeria have the option of opening a bank account with them without having a Bank Verification Number (BVN).

I am quite sure of GTBank, Zenith Bank, Access Bank, UBA, Fidelity Bank, First Bank, etc.

The truth is, there’s more to opening an account in Nigeria without a BVN.

Now listen, You can open a bank account in Nigeria without a BVN, but you will not have access to the money in the bank account.

Not having access to the money in the account simply means you cannot withdraw money from the bank account, buy airtime and data, or pay bills from the account.

Debit transactions will be frozen until you link a BVN to the bank account.

Since debit transactions will be frozen, credit transactions will not be blocked, and this means you can send more to the bank account.

However, there’s a maximum limit.

You cannot send or transfer more than N100,000 to such a bank account. If you send more than N100,000 to such a bank account, the money will be withheld by the bank, and you will have to link a BVN to the account before the money will be received in the bank account.

Linking a BVN means enrolling for a Bank Verification Number because the BVN names and date of birth must match the bank account names and date of birth.

So, it’s not all about opening a bank account without a BVN, but also having access to the account and transferring a maximum amount of money into the account.

The likes of OPay and Moniepoint may require just your NIN to open their account, but in the end, you will still need a BVN because NIN and BVN now work together.

Don’t Miss:

Bank Verification Number is Compulsory or Mandatory?

To have a fully functional bank account in Nigeria, BVN is mandatory; without a BVN, such a bank account will be frozen, or debit transactions will be restricted.

Every bank account in Nigeria is mandated to have a BVN linked to its account.

The order was set by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Kindly note that enrolling for BVN is free of charge and will only take a few minutes to maybe one hour, depending on the network service.

So, I don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t want to enroll for BVN in Nigeria.

I don’t reccomend this type of account

I don’t recommend this type of account because of the restrictions, and I mean the maximum amount of money to be received into this type of account.

Any bank account you didn’t open with an ID, utility bill, and a passport is a tier one bank account.

A good example is a quick account opening and student account.

In this type of account, you can only receive N100,000 and cannot exceed that amount even if you have a BVN linked to the account. To receive more than N100,000, you must upgrade your bank account.

Upgrading your bank account in Nigeria requires an ID such as a NIN, voter’s card, international passport, driver’s license, utility bill like a NEPA bill, and a passport.

For me, simply open a proper bank account or perhaps a tier 3 bank account that you can receive any amount up to N500,000,000,000.

A tier 3 bank account is unlimited, meaning you can receive more than N500,000,000,000 into this type of account.

So instead of wasting your time opening a bank account that you will have to go to the bank to upgrade, why not make up a time and go to the bank with your ID, utility bill, and passport to open a proper account?

Right there, you will enroll for BVN if you do not have a bank verification number.

Which bank can I open online without a bvn

You can open a savings bank account online without a BVN in any bank in Nigeria.

However, you will still need a BVN to access the money in the bank account because debit transactions will be restricted on the account until you link a BVN to the bank account.

The likes of Opay and Moniepoint gives you the option of using just your NIN ID to open an account with them.

However, if you want to have a proper bank account in Nigeria, then bear in mind that BVN is mandatory or compulsory.

Opening a bank account online only requires you to download the bank app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, open the application, and you will see where it states “create new account.”

Tap on that option and follow up to open your bank account online.

Almost every bank in Nigeria has the option to open a bank account without a BVN by using its mobile app or USSD, which is offline and much better.

So any bank you have in mind you want to open an account with them, simply go to Playstore or appstore and download the bank app. Open the app and create your new bank account or Quick bank account.

Which bank can I open without a bvn or nin?

They are as follows;

  1. Gtbank.
  2. Zenith bank.
  3. Access bank.

And this is where I draw the curtain on today’s question of the day: which bank can I open an account with in Nigeria without a BVN? Kindly note that you can open a bank account with any bank in Nigeria without a BVN.
