There’s no doubt that one of the fastest ways to check BVN is online, but the question is, which methods are available?

You need not worry, as I will explain that to you.

As the question goes, how to check my BVN online, especially if I don’t want to visit the bank.

I’ve explained it below.

how to check my bvn online

How to check my bvn online

To check your bvn online, you simply need to use your bank mobile app or internet banking to check your bank verification number online without visiting the bank.

However, not all banks have the option to check BVN via the bank’s mobile app.

You don’t need to panic right now if your bank is included, as there are other methods.

So, I will go ahead and explain the ways in which you can use to check your bank verification number online without visiting the bank.

1. The bank mobile app

Mobile app

This is one of the fastest and most convenient ways to check your BVN online, by using the bank’s mobile app.

Well, this is called mobile banking.

Every bank or financial institution has a mobile app that allows users to access financial services via a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet.

The financial services also include checking of BVN.

Using the bank’s mobile app, you can easily check your BVN at any time and multiple times without paying a single dime.

All you need to do is ensure that you have downloaded your bank’s mobile app and installed it on your phone.

Next is to enroll for mobile banking. Simply open the app and create your account using your bank account number.

The registration won’t take up to 5 minutes and you should be done with the enrollment.

You can do this right inside your house, office or anywhere as long as you have a good internet connection.

If you feel you cannot do it, that’s fine; then, you can go to the bank, and I’m sure they will assist you.

This is my go-to method when it comes to checking BVN online, using any of my bank’s mobile apps.

I believe all banks have the option to check BVN via their mobile apps.

However, I was quite surprised to see GTBank removing the option on their newly updated GTWorld app.

Previously, it was there, but I have checked thoroughly and could no longer find the option on the Gtworld app.

So, if you bank with Gtbank, you will have to use other methods below.

2. Internet banking

Internet banking

This is another method to check BVN online, through internet banking.

This is very similar to mobile banking, but it works very well on a large screen or, probably on a computer.

Once you log into your internet banking account, you will see your account details, including your bank verification number.

You can check your BVN multiple times for free as long as you have an active internet connection.

For some banks, such as GTbank, as long as you have a mobile banking account, you can use the same login details for internet banking.

You do not need to create a new account for Internet banking.

The likes of Zenith Bank and First Bank will require a token for their internet banking. This means you have to get a token, be it software token or hardware token, to create an internet banking account.

3. Bank statement of account

This is another way to get your BVN without visiting a bank.

All you need to do is request a statement of account via your bank’s mobile app or internet banking.

The statement of account will be sent to your email address.

Kindly use any PDF file app like Adobe to open the file. Right there at the top, close to your account name, you will see your bank verification number.

When it comes to checking your Bank Verification Number (BVN) online, you can use your bank’s mobile app, internet banking platform, or the statement sent to your registered email address to check your bvn without visiting the bank.

4. Via WhatsApp

So this method is applicable to banks that has custtomer service whatsapp number.

If you check and discover that your bank has a functional customer service WhatsApp number where you can chat with a representative, you can request your BVN through this method.

Now, listen. The bank customer service representative will ask you a couple of questions to verify that you’re the account owner before proceeding to give you the BVN.

In some cases, they may decline to do so and request that you go to the bank or use the bank’s mobile app, internet banking, or USSD code to check your bank verification number.

Don’t Miss:

Where the problem lies

It requires internet connection.

You cannot check your BVN online using a feature phone or dumb phone.

If you do not have an active internet connection, this will not work at all.

If there is a poor internet connection, you will have a hard time opening the bank mobile app or internet banking platform.

If you do not have a smartphone and a computer, checking your bank verification number online is not for you because it requires a smartphone and a computer.

If you have a feature phone or a dumb phone, then you need to use the USSD code to check your BVN.

Bank Verification Number Overview

The Bank Verification Number (BVN) is a unique 11-digit number introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 2014 to enhance security and reduce fraud within the Nigerian banking system.

It serves as a biometric identification system, linking all of a customer’s bank accounts across multiple banks to a single identity.

The BVN records key biometric information such as fingerprints and facial data, ensuring that each bank customer can be uniquely identified.

The primary purpose of the BVN is to safeguard the financial system against identity theft, unauthorized access, and fraudulent activities.

By using a combination of biometrics and personal information, the BVN ensures that only the legitimate owner can authorize transactions on their accounts.

Registration for a BVN is mandatory for all account holders in Nigerian banks.

It can be done by visiting any bank branch, where customers’ biometric data are captured.

Once registered, the BVN links all of the individual’s bank accounts, regardless of the bank.

Having a BVN is essential for accessing a wide range of banking services in Nigeria, including loans, online banking, and mobile banking services. It also helps the government monitor financial activities for security and regulatory purposes.

With all explained,  I believe to have answered the question of  how to check bvn online, and you can use the bank mobile app, internet banking,  statement of account or WhatsApp to check bvn online.
